IOM PROJECT

Our Youth Agric Service Center provides young farmers with training, resources, and support to enhance agricultural skills, increase productivity, and promote sustainable farming practices.

Project Summary

Migration remains a significant yet complex aspect of Gambian society, largely driven by economic challenges and limited opportunities at home. For many returnees, coming back presents a new set of difficulties, including unemployment, inadequate skills, and psychosocial barriers to reintegration. In response, the National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), launched the Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy Training for Migrant Returnees. This reintegration-focused initiative is designed to equip returnees with critical knowledge and practical skills in entrepreneurship and financial management, laying the groundwork for sustainable livelihoods. Conducted prior to the delivery of reintegration support, the training acts as a crucial preparatory step—enabling returnees to better manage resources and pursue viable economic activities. Implemented across the country, the program plays a vital role in fostering self-reliance, advancing financial inclusion, and reducing the likelihood of re-migration. Ultimately, it supports The Gambia’s national development goals by transforming returnees into empowered entrepreneurs and active participants in the local economy.
